A former Governor of Ebonyi State, Sam Egwu and five other eminent Nigerians will receive the Fellowship Award of the Federal College of Education, Eha-Amufu in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State during the 2017 convocation ceremony of the institution.

This was disclosed by the Provost of the College, Prof. Benjamin Ndubuisi Mbah, in a press briefing, on Wednesday, Eha-Amufu to mark the 31st and 32nd Combined Convocation ceremony of the institution coming up on December 16.

The award, he said, is to thank the recipients for using their individual potentials and gifts to promote human capacity building and development of the college and the society as a whole.

According to him, the reward for a job well done is “thank you”, adding that the honor is to encourage them to continue with their yeoman services to the society; and to encourage other Nigerians who have the wherewithal to emulate their footsteps and assist the needy.

“These people have really distinguished themselves in various areas of lives and have used their experience, wealth and resources to encourage good living among many Nigerians. They have helped our college immensely and it is necessary to give honor to who honour is due. They deserve to be honored so that other Nigerians of their status will emulate them,” he said.

Other recipients of the Award are: Senator Gil Emeka Nnaji, the Senator representing Enugu East Senatorial District and Chairman Committee on Communications, Senator Sonni Ogbuoji, representing Ebonyi South District and Vice Chairman, Committee on Appropriation, Prof. Hillary Edoga, the immediate past Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia state, Prof. Victor W. A. Mbarika, President of the Board of Trustees, ICT-University, Louisiana, USA and the Anglican Bishop of Nsukka Diocese, Rt. Rev. Aloysius Eze Agbo.

The Provost, at the briefing, said that the convocation will be the last he will preside over as his tenure expires by March 2018, adding that he will remain grateful to those who have supported him and the college all through his services. He used the opportunity to inform journalists that his administration has transformed the college to a greater height, saying that he had restored the dignity of the college by ensuring that the prominent logo of the institution which is represented by a horse and was battered many years ago has started to gallop again.

“May I inform you that I have within the past seven years plus, which I served as the Chief Executive of the FCE Eha-Amufu and in collaboration with my management team, improved greatly in the areas of human and physical infrastructural development. We built a number of lecture halls, examination halls, office spaces, well-equipped e-library with current editions of e-books, encyclopedia, Journals and Articles; and have improved immensely in Information Communication and Technology, (ICT). We have also procured fifteen different brands of vehicles, among others”, he said.

Among the expected dignitaries in the occasion will be the Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu.
