Friends and well-wishers of late Olorogun Felix Ovuodoroye Ibru gathered on Wednesday at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island Lagos, for a spectacular evening of tributes and eulogies to the departed patriarch and entrepreneur.
Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu described the late Ibru as a great gentleman who contributed so much to the development of the country.
He said his footprints cannot be easily wiped out in the history of Nigeria.
“He was a man of inestimable pedigree, a mentor and internationally renowned entrepreneur and politician. I met him at the 5th Senate as the Chairman, Committee on Establishment.
He performed excellently well and was a great influence to many of us.
Ekeremmadu also stated that late Senator Ibru was a peacemaker as he was nicknamed ‘Mr Calm Down’. He also put food on the tables of many people.
Former governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan described him as a humble personality who worked hard to develop Delta State and ensured a peaceful co existence among the people.
He noted that with Ibru’s death, the entire Urhobo Community would have a serious challenge because it would be difficult to fill the gap.
Also, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Professor Bolaji Akinyemi described Ibru’s death as “a very big blow to the country” as he did his best to render the best services in all the capacities he served.
Former Secretary General of Common Wealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku described him as a man of honour and value who was never found wanting in all his lifetime engagements.
The late Ibru will be laid to rest on Wednesday in his hometown Agbarha-Otor Ughelli, Delta State
