University Preparatory Secondary School in Benin-City, Edo State, on Monday, emerged winners of the second edition of the road safety quiz competition organised by the Zone 5 of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

Ten schools drawn from the three states of Edo, Delta and Anambra, under the zone participated in the elimination stage of the competition held in Asaba, Delta State capital.

Out of the five schools that made it to the final stage, University Preparatory Secondary School won with 14 points while Rev. Fr. Ekwu Memorial School from Anambra State came second with 12 points.

Community Secondary School also from Anambra State came third with 10 points.

Zonal Commander of the Corps, Assistant Corps Marshal Kehinde Adeleye said the competition was to assess the level of understanding of road safety by the younger generation as represented by secondary school pupils.

Adeleye said in 2011, the National Council on Education infused road safety education into school curriculum, adding that the competition was also geared towards deepening general safety knowledge among the people.

He commended some corporate organizations for supporting the Corps in ensuring the success of the competition which started last year.

Sector Commander of the Delta State Command of the Corps, Rindon Kumven described the competition as critical, noting that it was key to achieving the quality education component of the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
