Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Haliru Gwandu, says the Command has beamed it searchlight on Ambrose Alli University professor found in possession of firearms.

He maintained that that don would be prosecuted accordingly if found guilty upon completion of investigation.

The police boss made the assertion while parading 59 suspects who were involved in various crimes ranging from cultism, illegal possession of fire arms and kidnapping in Benin-City, on Wednesday.

The police commissioner, who did not give the name of the professor, said firearms were recovered from him and that investigation into the matter was still ongoing.

He said the police would go after those breeding cult groups in institutions of learning with the view of making it conducive for learning for students.

The police boss said between 22 of September 2016 that he assumed office to date,  the command has arrested a total of 601 suspects involved in kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, murder, rape and other sundry crimes.

He noted that large catchment of arms and ammunition were recovered while most of these suspects have been charged to court as there is no pending case across the state while many victims were rescued and reunited with their family by the police.

The police Commissioner called for more information from the general public to enable him combat crimes and criminality in the state.
