Edo State House of Assembly yesterday lifted the suspension on the impeached former speaker and majority leader of the House, Justine Okonoboh and Foly Ogedengbe, respectively.

The House, however, declined to lift the suspension on Mrs Elizabeth Ativie and another member, Magnus Ezehi-Igbas until they cooperate with the committee set up to look into their cases.

The resolution of the House to lift the suspension followed the recommendations of an ad hoc committee, headed by the new Deputy Speaker, Victor Edoro.

At the sitting of the House yesterday, Edoro explained that the former speaker and majority leader were ‘seemingly cooperative’ with investigations while Ativie and Igbas allegedly showed no respect for the committee and the House at the time of submitting committee’s preliminary report.

He said some of the property of the Assembly had been returned by the two suspended members.

Following the resolution of the House, the Speaker Kabiru Adjoto ruled that “consequently, the suspension of the members, Okonoboh and Ogedengbe, is hereby lifted, while Ativie and Igbas remain suspended.”
