Executive officers and members of Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, have been advised not to allow criminals or people with criminal intents to infiltrate their ranks.

Police Area Commander in charge of Abeokuta Area Command, ACP Okon Effiong, gave this advice, on Tuesday, when he spoke at a one-day human capacity development seminar organised for PCRC divisional executives in Abeokuta Metro Command, held at the Police Officers’ Mess, Ibara GRA, Abeokuta.

According to Effiong,  PCRC’s role in providing support to the police is highly sensitive, hence, the body must constantly ensure people of good character are inducted as members.

He added that community policing initiative would only succeed, if PCRC  carries out proper background checks on intending members to avoid registering criminals.

The Area Commander, therefore, urged the executive members to ensure accountability, transparency and probity in the discharge of their duties, charging them to further espouse cordial working relationship with the vigilance group, to ensure tight security in their respective communities.

In his remark, the State Chairman of PCRC, Alhaji Ibrahim Olaniyan, said the seminar was to enhance the leadership capacity of the executive members.
