It was dollars rain at the annual old boys convention of the College of The Immaculate Conception (CIC), Enugu which was held in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA Saturday night.
Old boys of one of the premier secondary schools in Eastern Nigeria pledged to dole out the funds needed to start and complete a modern dormitory at the college.
The two-story building dormitory when completed is expected to accommodate 450 students.
An alumnus of the college who played host to this year’s convention, Benson Ejindu told Daily Sun here in Charlotte that all Sempers (as the old boys are fondly called) have resolved to back the dormitory project.
He pointed out that the success story of the Charlotte convention that attracted old boys from different parts of the world is a clear indication that the dormitory project would be realized in one years.
“We have set an August 2018 target for the dormitory project and our slogan is “Yes we can”. By August 2018 we would all be home to commission the project as we did early this year when Gov Ugwuanyi commissioned the Multi Purpose Building (MPB) built by the alumni,” Ejindu said.
Saturday’s event started with a boat ride by members and friends of the old boys after which the convention proper started at the Ritz Carlton hotel. The colorful night was one that had in attendance 16 Nollywood stars from Nigeria.
Speaking at the event, Kenneth Okonkwo, a Nollywood star thumbed up the CIC old boys for giving back to the society and the school that mounded them. He particularly gave kudos to Benson Ejindu for his patriotism and love for his alma mater.
“Benson Ejindu who hosted this event is one man who is passionate when it comes to the growth of CIC. If only we have many of his kind in Nigeria, the country will not remain the same. The entire CIC old boys are wonderful members of one big family,” Okonkwo said.
Some of the Nollywood stars that graced the convention include Eucharia Anunobi, Mary Igwe, Gentle Jack ,Charles Inojie ,Diewatt Ikpechukwu and Lavonne Celewato.
The Nollywood stars present supported the old boys with a $1000 donation.
