Worried by several complaints against Fulani herdsmen in parts of the state, Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Zanna Ibrahim, has warned the herdsmen to desist from their deadly activities or be ready to face the full weight of the law.

CP Ibrahim in a statement by the command’s public relations officer, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, frowned at the attitude of herdsmen who provocatively graze their cattle on people’s farmlands and warned them to refrain from such criminal acts.

He said any herdsman caught destroying crops, molesting or preventing farmers from entering their farms or bearing firearms or any other dangerous weapons will be arrested and brought to book.

The commissioner’s warning is coming on the heels of reports in parts of the state where herdsmen have held hostage, threatening farmers to stop coming to farms immediately their crops are matured so that their cows can feast on such crops.

Also speaking against the backdrop of recent killings of some herdsmen by community youths, CP Ibrahim warned Deltans against embarking on jungle justice.

He noted that the resort to jungle justice is uncivilized, criminal and impedes the course of peace and security in the state, stressing that the people should learn to seek legal redress whenever they feel wronged.

Mr. Ibrahim reassured of the command’s readiness and willingness to continually discharge its duties responsibly and called on Deltans to continue to support and cooperate with security agencies towards ensuring that peace and security prevail in every part of the state.
