Several hundreds of the people of Daura, the hometown of the President, converged on the grounds of the Emir of Daura’s palace, on Saturday, at a rally in support of Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Senator representing Katsina North Senatorial district, Mustapha Buka, urged Nigerians to continue to show understanding and patience as the Buhari-led Federal Government works to set the country on what he described as a path to sustainable development.
He admitted that Nigeria is currently going through a period of “critical transition,” but argued that most developed nations at some point in their histories went through the same process.
The Senator listed a number of other countries including Malaysia, Singapore and China which he noted underwent periods of austerity before they were transformed from the status of Third World to First World countries.
He said that that the Buhari administration was working hard to restore lasting security and to take the country out of the current economic recession through the implementation of what Buka called pragmatic policies.
Katsina State Commissioner of Justice. Ahmad El-marzuq, who represented Governor Aminu Bello Masari at the rally, hinted that certain economic indicators show that Nigeria was already on its way out of the economic recession.
He urged Nigerians to continue to pray for the country’s leaders at all levels and to effect a positive change in their attitudes and orientation.
Meanwhile, an outbreak of Cerebro Spinal Meningitis (CSM) has been reported in parts of Batsari local government of Katsina State.
Although the casualty figures were not available as at the time of this report yesterday afternoon, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Kabir Mustapha, confirmed the report saying that, “it is true that there is an outbreak of CSM in some communities in Batsari local government but I cannot tell you further details because the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency is yet to forward full details on the disease outbreak to my office.”
He however assured that government had already deployed team of experts to contain the situation in the affected areas to curtail the spread of the deadly viral diseases.
