Dalung for Akwa Ibom youth festival

“ You can be rest assured that anything that has to do with the development of sports, especially at the grass roots level, the Honourable Sports Minister will be interested” That is the assurance from an aide of the minister of Youth and sports that confirmed the presence of the Minister for Tomorrow’s opening ceremony of the Akwa Ibom State Youth Sports Festival.

The Minister is expected to touch down in Uyo from Kaduna today and would be received in audience by the Executive Governor of the State His Excellency Deacon Udom Emmanuel.

After the courtesy call, the Minister would be taken round Sports Infrasctructure in the state, especialiy the model sports centre at West Itam Secondary School.

Minister Dalung will also take another look at the home of the Super Eagles, the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, one of the best in the world.

Yesterday the draw ceremony of the festival was held amid pomp and  ceremony with the Deputy Governor of the State “ drawing the first blood”

It was also the duty of the Deputy Governor His Excellency Moses Ekpo to draw Ikot Abasi and Uyo as the two Local Governments that will kick off the football event during the opening ceremony on Wednesday.

Attended by selected secondary schools in the state, members of the State House of Assembly, Commissioners, Permanent secretaries Local Government Chieftains and top sports stars including Enofiok Udobong and top Nollywood star “Okon Lagos” the Deputy Governor was greatful to Gov Udom Emmanuel for the initiative that was going to revolutionise school sports not only in the state but the country at large.

He commended the ministries of sports and education for the initiative and asked the students to take advantage of the platform made available to them. The festival had attracted the participation of all the 31 Local Governments in the state with 15 sports in primary schools and 20 in secondary schools.
