On Thursday last week, editors, reporters, graphic artists, photojournalists and other staff of Daily Sun congregated in the newspaper’s expansive newsroom, where they spent some moments reminiscing on the passing year and charting a fresh course for 2017.
It was the annual end-of-the-year get-together hosted by the Editor, Daily Sun, Mr. Onuoha Ukeh.
The special guest was the Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief, The Sun Publishing Limited, Mr. Eric Osagie.
In his short address, Osagie tasked all members of The Sun family to be more diligent and dedicated to their duties in the coming year so that the company could serve its readers, advertisers and the larger society better as well as generate returns for all stakeholders. Osagie, who laced his address with jokes and banter that further enlivened the occasion, emphasised the importance of teamwork. He encouraged all staff to continue to put in their very best.
“Look at yourself as the owner of the company. Work for the company so that the company can work for you. Do your best to have that sense of fulfillment at the end of the day,” he said.
Waxing spiritual, Osagie expressed the confidence that the current economic challenges in Nigeria would not last forever: “The Bible says the more the Israelites were afflicted, the more they prospered. As a company, God has been there for us. And He will continue to be there for us. Let’s keep working together as brothers and sisters.”
He pledged that workers who perform excellently in 2017 would be rewarded.
At the gathering, Ukeh said he convened the meeting to thank every staffer who had contributed in diverse ways to keep the company in business. The editor said every member of staff knew where they had done well and where they had not lived up to expectations. He also urged them to perform their duties better in the coming year.
However, it wasn’t all speeches at the get-together, as the host, Ukeh, ensured that food and drinks were served in copious quantities.
Also present at the get-together were Editor, Sunday Sun, Abdulfatah Olaideinde, Editor, Saturday Sun, Bruce Malogo; Daily Sun Deputy Editors, Femi Adeoti and Beifoh Osewele and other senior editorial staff of the organisation.
