A Yola based lawyer, Mr Roland Emem, Saturday send a draft anti corruption bill  to President Muhammadu Buhari  for possible forwarding to National Assembly by the presidency as an Executive Bill.

Emem who posted the bill to President Buhari through  NIPOST office in Jimeta area of Yola, told newsmen after the posting ceremony that his decision to post the bill to the presidency to be sponsored as executive bill at the National Assembly was to ensure that the required attention was accorded the bill which was meant to effectively check corruption and promote good governance.

“Corruption has grown so powerful in Nigeria making it very difficult for an individual bill against corruption to receive the needed attention, hence the need for sending this bill to the president for his kind consideration and transmission to the National Assembly as an Executive Bill for legislative action and enactment into law”, Emem said.

He explained that the bill titled “The Government Business Bill” sought to  redefine the scope of corrupt practices by criminalizing some acts and omissions of impunity of political office holders, civil servants as well as directors, staff and agents of companies  contracted by the various tiers of government in Nigeria that always manifested in areas of poor budget implementation, breaches of government contracts and abandonment of government projects.

Emem said that the bill also sought to grant diversified powers of prosecution extended to NGO’s involve in fighting corruption.

Registering the letter to the president containing the proposed bill, the Area Postal Manager, Mr Atoo Mamegh, assured that the speed post letter would be delivered to the presidency latest by Monday.

He lauded the anti-corruption activist for having confidence in NIPOST and assured him that he would not be disappointed by NIPOST ability to deliver. (NAN)
