Indigenes of Usoko Community in Etsako Central Local Government Council of Edo State have appealed to the state government to construct roads and provide basic amenities for the community.

They made the appeal in separate intervie3e NAN on Monday in  Ekperi in  Edo.

An indigene of the community, Mr Yesufu Abu, said that the community was faced with several challenges that required urgent attention by the government.

“The social interaction between other communities has been hindered due to poor access roads.

“We are calling on government to provide us with good roads and social amenities,’’ he said.

Another indigene, Mrs. Felicia Ikhaneh, said in terms of road construction, Usoko had been completely neglected by the previous administrations.

“I am appealing to the state government to give serious attention to  construction of roads in the community.

“A situation where one cannot access Usoko village is not too good,’’ Ikhaneh said.

The Village Head of Usoko, Chief Ibrahim Musa, said that the community lacked basic amenities such as potable water, health care facilities, roads and dilapidated school structures.

He said that roads connecting the community to other villages had been completely neglected by the government.

“Government programmes targeted at improving the lives of rural dwellers are yet to be fulfilled in Usoko village.

“The community still lack some basic amenities such as potable water, healthcare facilities and access roads,’’ Musa said.

The village head said that the state of schools in the community was beyond description, adding that the school environment was no longer conducive for children to learn.

“The condition of these schools is so appalling that our children have long ago stopped attending schools due to the collapsed buildings.

“The teachers also no longer come to school as a result of the poor condition of the access roads which are not motorable, especially during rainy season,’’ Musa said.
