A community leader in the Igbo-Elerin area of Lagos State, Alhaji Afiesi Aina, has sent a Save Our Soul message to Governor Akinwumi Ambode over alleged claims by the authorities of the Lagos State University (LASU) that the land on which thousands of houses are built belongs to the school.
He said the issue of land had been resolved during the time of former military governor, Raji Rasaki, and wondered why such would come up at this period.
“We were shocked last month. While preparing for Christmas, we got a circular from LASU that the land we presently occupy belong to them.
“Since that circular was issued, it has been sleepless night for many. I initially doubted the authenticity of that circular because of my strong belief in the Ambode administration.
“We are all for the progress of Lagos, and we are solidly behind the current government of Lagos State. This should not be happening to us,” he said.
He also appealed to LASU authorities to reconsider their decision, stressing that Igbo Elerin is no longer a virgin land.
“We appeal to the Vice Chancellor of LASU, Fagbohun Ogedengbe to reconsider this decision. We also call on our sister and mother, the deputy governor, Dr Idiat Oluranti Addebule, to look into this matter.
“Many are already panickng since this circular came. We are all begging because LASU belongs to the state government, and you cannot fight the state and win,” he said.
