The communities around Gwaram-Basirka area of Jigawa state have decried difficulties in their day to day life activities due to the collapse of major bridge that links many communities in the area.

The communities along the road had made a formal complain to the Jigawa state government on the urgent need to renovate the bridge for easy transportation of their farm produce and movement of goods and services.

Some community members in the area told Daily Sun that the collapse of the bridge has caused untold hardship to the communities along the road, particularly in the raining season.

The road is very critical for social and economic activity as its links the northwest and northeast state of the federation.

Daily Sun contacted the Jigawa state government on the matter. The permanent secretary Jigawa state ministry of works and housing  Engr. Datti confirmed that the difficulties faced by the communities of Gwaram Basirika road will soon come to an end as the state has released over N87 million for the reconstruction of the collapsed bridge.

He explained that the state had already awarded the contract for the reconstruction of the road to ARKEL Nigeria Limited about three month ago.

The permanent secretary added that the contractor has already mobilized to the site, but due to the high flow of rain along the area the work is yet to commence.

He noted that the work will commence as soon as the water flow starts to subside.

The Permanent Secretary assured the people of the area of the commitment of the state government to providing them with infrastructure and services that would improve their wellbeing.
