Founder of the Resurrection Praise Ministry, Worldwide, Archbishop Samson Benjamin has called for a review of the time frame in which election petition matters are determined and resolved in one month.

He made the call when he visited Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi in Enugu. The cleric lauded Ugwuanyi for his recent victory at the Supreme Court where he got the nod to continue as the state governor.

The archbishop said he was in the state to see the governor with the aim of furthering the peace moves between the governor and Senator Ayogu Eze, who challenged the governor’s election, but expressed joy that both men are working towards mending the gap between them for the good of the state. He called on the National Assembly to push for a law that would ensure the time between when an election is conducted and the time any case arising from the election is settled does not exceed one month.

He advocated a temporary measure to fill the contested seat until the cases involved are settled for the rightful winner to take over office.

He lamented that the periods of arbitration and the time it took to resolve the issues involved in election petitions were not good for any of the parties involved.

He  commended  Ugwuanyi for the developments experienced in the state during his short tenure, even as he noted that his administration would have been distracted by the case in court over his election.

On his part, the governor thanked the archbishop for the visit and expressed happiness at the peace talks, noting that he is ready to work with anyone, including Eze to move Ebonyi to greater heights.
