It was a fun filled soccer friendly on Friday at the William Davies Sports Park here in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA when old students of the College of Immaculate Conception (CIC) Enugu and ex-Rangers players took to the pitch as part of activities marking CIC’s annual convention.

Interestingly, the CIC annual convention in Charlotte, North Carolina is taking place one week before that of ex- Rangers based in USA. The ex-Rangers gathering is billed for Houston on August 12.

The Friday soccer friendly ended 4-4 with ex-Rangers coming from behind to force the draw after trailing 2-4 in the first half. The match attracted some of the players who in their heyday won the African Cup Winners Cup for the Enugu flying antelopes in 1977.

Some of those who took to the pitch include Sam Onyeaka, Emmanuel Merenini, Nnamdi Anyaefo and Ikem Ude.

Speaking during the soccer friendly, a top official of the CIC Old Boys, Benson Ejindu said the CIC convention which held yesterday in Charlotte, North Carolina, was an annual event where members of the college alumni come together to raise funds used in carrying out projects in the Enugu campus of the school.

Ejindu pointed out that the alumni body had early this year commissioned a 250 million naira multi purpose hall in the Enugu campus of the college.

He further disclosed that the alumni body plans to build a new dormitory for the students before the end of August 2018.

“We, as former students of CIC Enugu have resolved to give back to the society and the college that made us by embarking on projects that would make the school retain its statutes as one of the best in Nigeria. This year’s annual convention in Charlotte is one we are using to raise funds for a new dormitory project which we hope to complete by August 2018.”
