The Household of God Church will today roll out its red carpet for celebrities including music and movie stars, as it celebrates this year’s GRACE event, the church’s popular love feast, which holds on the last Sunday before Christmas.
During the colourful event, four charities traditionally receive N1 million each from the church pastored by Rev Chris Okotie. These organisations are Little Saints Orphanage, Spinal Cord Injuries Association, Sunshine Foundation and Pachelli School for the Blind and partially Sight.
The highlight of the GRACE event is the KARIS award, given each year to a distinguished but unsung Nigerian whose contributions to society is not widely recognised. The church uses the GRACE platform to promote such individuals. Past awardees include the late Head of State, General Murtala Mohammed, Mallam Aminu Kano, Hajia Gambo Sawaba, Dr. Tai Solarin, DIG Chris Omeben, Oba Funsho Adeola, Chief (Mrs) Magaret Ekpo, Chief Gani Fawehinmi etc.
This year, the KARIS award will go to a former Principal of the iconic Queens College, Yaba, Lagos, Mrs Iphigenia Efunjoke Coker.
As principal of Queens College, Yaba, she transformed the school into the premier school for girls in Nigeria.
Many students who attended Queens College under her watch have risen to national and international prominence. It was in appreciation of her unrelenting sense of service to humanity and enviable achievements as an exemplary educationist that the Pastor
and congregation of the Household of God Church decided to honour Mrs. Efunjoke Coker
