In other to strengthen its cultural offering, the Centre for Black African Arts and Civilisation(CBAAC) has endorsed this year’s Ekoonibaje  New Yam and Beach festival which holds in Ibeju Lekki in September.

Dr. Ferdinand Anikwe, Director General of CBAAC who endorsed the festival, said, while addressing the planning committee that the centre will work closely with the committee to ensure the success of the event. He explained that a cultural festival of this magnitude would foster unity and peace in the Lekki axis and promote harmony among the inhabitants in the area by creating an avenue for relaxation, entertainment and sport. He added that the Ekoonibaje New Yam and Beach festival was growing to become an important cultural product that could change the perception of tourism in Lagos and drive the needed traffic to the state.

Taofik Ahmed, an Indian collaborator who was at the meeting also promised to cooperate with the planners to deepen the cultural content of the one-week event by adding fashion and cultural dance to package. The promoter, Chief Chinedu Idezuna, recalled how he initiated the festival in 2009 as a bridge to build peace and harmonious co-existence of people living in Victoria Island using the annual cultural ensemble which holds at Ibeju Lekki, Lagos. This year’s festival holds from September 29 to October 1, 2017
