The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has urged Governor Samuel Ortom to without further delay sign the Anti-Open Grazing Bill into law. The bill was recently passed by the state’s House of Assembly.
State Chairman of the Association, Rev. Akpen Leva, stated this at the weekend at the end of a three day prayer and fasting organised for President Muhammadu Buhari by the state government in conjunction with CAN.
“The Benue people will appreciate if you can without any further delay, sign the Anti-Open Grazing Bill into law. We are tired of the continued attacks on our people and on our land.”
Leva who made this call commended the decision of the governor in standing firm on the issue of ranching as the only way to rear animals these days and the only solution to ending the incessant attacks as well restore peace between farmer and herders.
Ortom during the grand finale of the programme appreciated the Christian community in the state for their relentless prayers for President Buhari’s quick recovery, emphasizing that their prayers have been sustaining the government of state even as he urged them to continue to support his government.
The Governor who acknowledged that the state was going through a difficult time occasioned by economic recession assured that with God on his side, he would take Benue to greater heights.
The programme lasted from Friday May 12 to Sunday May 14, 2017 and prayers for the quick recovery of the president were offered for God to intervene.
CAN coordinators at the 23 local government areas of the state, according to programme, organised the fasting and prayer session at their various local government areas while those in Makurdi participated in the programme at the Chapel of Grace, Benue People House, Makurdi.
