RIVERS United FC has moved to the second position of Group A with six points in the CAF Confederations Cup after defeating Uganda’s Kampala Capital City 2-1 at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt.

Rivers United claimed an early lead through Bernard Ovoke in just 54 seconds of the hard fought clash with Frederick Obomate doubling the tally fifteen minutes later to ignite hopes of a quarter final placement.

Godfrey Serunkuma, tried to reduce the goal margin for the visiting KCCA who were desperate for a draw to secure their quarter final berth.

KCCA were forced to effect a change in the 51st minute as first choice keeper Douglas Kisembo was substituted due to in- jury and was replaced by Benjamin Ochan.

In the 89th minute, KCCA’s Habib Kavuma was sent off for a second yellow card.

The Pride of Rivers have scored in all their previous continental matches at Yakubu Gowon Stadium against AS Real Bamako (Mali), Al Merreikh (Sudan), Rayon Sports (Rwanda) and FUS Rabat (Morocco).

It would be recalled that KCCA beat Rivers United 2-1 in the reverse fixture in Kampala on June 3. They have lost all the five away games they have played on the continent this year.

Rivers United’s next game is at home against Club Africa in of Tunisia which comes up on Sun- day, July 2.
