A senior member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Sam Nkire, said President Muhammadu deserves to be named patron of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) due to the programmes he has for the Nigerian worker.

Reacting to events that marked this year’s May Day celebrations, Chief Nkire said welfare of the masses, job creation as well as the fight against corruption were the principal reasons Buhari sought to be president in the first place. The APC chieftain said the president was not oblivious of the fact that most NLC members voted for him and, therefore, would always fight for their rights and wellbeing.

Nkire said the APC government, under the leadership of President Buhari, is working day and night to see that Nigeria’s economy recovered in record time, in order to impact on the Nigerian worker.

He said what mattered most was not whether Buhari attended the May Day celebration in person, but what he achieves for the Nigerian worker in the next 12 months. He described APC as more of a Workers’ Party, adding that what concerned the masses concerned the party and President Buhari.

Nkire, however, appealed to both leadership and membership of NLC to continue to support Buhari’s war against corruption in order to prevent stealing and encourage saving for the development of the country.
