An Imam and four other persons have been killed in a village in Borno State in renew attacks by suspected Boko Haram members.

Sources said the terrorists invaded Kurmiri village in Mongumeri Local Government Area if the state, on Sunday evening.

A source claimed the insurgents slit the throat of the Imam identified as Ustaz Goni Bukar Tabare and four other residents without firing a shot so as not to raise any alarm.

It was gathered that the terrorists had stormed the village with arms, knives and machete, sources said.

Chairman of Magumeri Local Government Area, Alhaji Abubakar Abdulkadir, confirmed the attack saying,  “Chief Imam of Kurmiri village and four other persons were slaughtered by suspected members of Boko Haram sect last night,” he said.

He, however, assured that security has been beefed up in the area.

“We woke up this morning (Monday) and received a distress call that one of our Community witnessed Boko Haram attacks. Five people were slaughtered including Chief Imam of Kurmiri village. We regreted this attack and we Pray Allah (God) grant Aljanal Fidau to the souls of the deceased and their families to bear the irreparable loss,” he said.

He commended the security agencies and civilian JTF for “their promptness.” He urged the people not to panic.
