Government institutions and schools on Friday in Benue observed the public holiday declared by the state government in preparation of the installation of the 5th Tor-Tiv, Prof. James Ayatse on Saturday.
Many of the institutions including the state’s secretariat, High, Magistrates and Upper Area Courts, were under lock and key.
It was also observed that only some private schools, hospitals, banks, shops and market places were functional in Makurdi on Friday.
It would be recalled that on Wednesday, March 1, the Benue State Executive Council approved that Friday, March 3 be observed as a work free day as part of preparations for the coronation of the fifth Tor Tiv.
The council meeting which was presided over by Governor Ortom, enjoined indigenes and residents in the state to make sacrifices in receiving guests, who will come to the state for the occasion.
Ortom appealed to the people to turn out in large numbers in their best colours and manners to grace the occasion.
However, Mr Terlumun Achin, a civil servant said that it was obligatory to observe the holiday as a lot were to be done in preparation of the historic event and also as a mark of respect. (NAN)
