Belgium has confirmed their 23-man squad for the 2018 World Cup but Roberto Martinez has dropped two Premier League stars.

The Spanish head coach trimmed his group down from an initial 28, with Crystal Palace striker Christian Beneteke missing out, along with Watford defender Christian Kabasele.

With Vincent Kompany injured in their most recent friendly against Portugal there were fears he would be absent but Martinez has retained him and left Laurent Ciman on stand-by.

Elsewhere, Jordan Lukaku, brother of Romelu was ditched as well as goalkeeper Matz Sels.

Manager Roberto Martinez told a press conference: “Until 24 hours before (Belgium v Panama) we can still make a replacement. We need to wait a period of seven, eight days with Vincent Kompany. Then we will get a good opportunity to make a diagnosis.

“Vincent Kompany is a true leader. He performed in a fantastic manner when he was on the pitch. His leadership is essential for us.”

Belgium are in Group G in the World Cup where they will also face England and Tunisia.
