The query handed Bayelsa State Head of Service (HoS), Dr. Peter Singabele and the Accountant General (AG) has generated ripples with the state government frowning at the failure of ministries, departments, agencies (MDAs) and parastatals to pay the salaries of workers as directed by Governor Seriake Dickson since last Thursday.
Consequently, the HoS and the Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Maxwell Ebibai, have given permanent secretaries, heads of MDAs and accountants the marching orders to commence payment of salaries or face disciplinary action.
In a joint statement, the HoS and the finance commissioner blamed the situation on the permanent secretaries, heads and accountants of the various MDAs and the parastatals.
The duo pointed out that the salary cheques were released to them as soon as the governor handed down the directive last week.
The two top government functionaries who were among top government functionaries queried by the governor over the failure to pay the salaries of workers as directed, last week, have warned that, failure to comply with the directive before yesterday would attract serious disciplinary actions.
