The face-off in the All Progressive Congress (APC) has divided the national leadership of the party, as they align and realign with factions.

Sources close to the secretariat of the party told Daily Sun that the dilemma of the national leadership was hinged on the forces behind the factions. The source said while the Chief Timipre Sylva-led faction flies the kite of presidential blessings, the substantive state party chairman, Chief Timipa Orunimighe-led faction reportedly has the backing of the party godfathers.

While the Orunimighe-led faction suspended the party’s governorship flagbearer, Silva, and urged the Minister of State for Agriculture, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri to resign for allegedly offering brides to attain his position, the Silva faction alleged that Governor Henry Seriake Dickson is the unseen hand fuelling the crisis in the party.

In his reaction, although the party’s National Auditor, Chief Dr George Moghalu, did not confirm the crisis in the party, he, however, noted that the party’s national leadership has no option that align itself with the stand of South-south leadership of the party.

“The South-south chairman of the party has made a categorical state for the warring factions to return to statusquo and I want to align myself totally with him,” he quipped.
