Bandits kill 10 in fresh Zamfara attack –Police

Zamfara State Police Command have confirmed the death of 10 people following an attack in Dutsen-Wake and Oho Village in Birnin-Magaji Local Government Area.

Police/Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Muhammad Shehu, who confirmed the fresh deaths to newsmen in Gusau, the state capital, yesterday, said the bandits attacked the two villages on Tuesday, around 10:00pm.

“We received distress call yesterday (Tuesday), that the bandits attacked the area around 10:00pm. We quickly responded by mobilising policemen to the area, led by Area Commander Kaura-Namoda Police Area Command and Divisional Police Officer of Birnin-Magaji Division.

“When they arrived the area, the bandits had already fled to Rugu forest bordering Zamfara with Katsina state.

“They discovered 10 dead bodies killed by the bandits, seven in Dutsen-Wake and three in Oho village,” he disclosed.

Shehu added that the Zamfara police command has already mobilised security personnel to maintain peace in the area.

According to him, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Kenneth Ebrimson, is collaborating with the Katsina State Police Command to track perpetrators of the attack.
On March 30, over 32 persons were killed in Bawan Daji village.

Also, on May 25, some communities in Gidangoga District, in Maradun Local Government Area of the state were similarly attacked by bandits, resulting to the death of 26 people and injuring of three others.

After killing 26 people in a community in the state, on June 2, again, gunmen hit another village in the state, killing 15 people.

That day, Shehu said the bandits killed the people in a village called Zakuna.
He said the village is in Anka Local Government Area.

In recent times, Zamfara has seen repeated attacks that have left scores dead and added to the agony of unending attacks that have been blamed largely on Boko Haram and cattle rustlers.
Shehu said the attackers invaded Zakuna in the early hours of June 1 and rustled cows belonging to villagers.

He said a vigilance group known as Yansakai took on the rustlers, forcing them to flee, only for the bandits to reinforce and attack the village, killing 15 people.

“On receiving the reports of the attack, the police mobilised to the village and discovered 15 dead bodies majority of whom were Yansakai. “The police have, however, deployed heavy security to the area to maintain peace and stability. Bush combing and rigorous patrol is being carried out throughout the area by the police to avoid further loss of lives,” Shehu said then.
