Wife of Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Zainab Atiku Bagudu,  has paid the sum of N1.5 million for the surgical operation of a 16-year-old girl, Hadiza Bagudu, who is suffering from sickle cell disorder.

Dr. Bagudu,  who is also the proprietor of Medicaid Cancer Foundation had announced last week the donation of N1.3 million for total hip replacement surgical operation of Hadiza, the sickle patient during the activities marking World Sickle Cell Day organised by Kebbi State Sickle Cell Association (KESCA).

Kebbi State coordinator of KESCA, Hajiya Hadiza Yahaya Shantali, led the parents of the sickle cell patient, Hadiza on thank-you visit to the governor’s wife at Government House , Birnin-Kebbi, on Tuesday.

Shantali said as the state coordinator of sickle association in the state, she felt overwhelmed by the gesture of wife of the governor to finance the operation of Hadiza.

“In fact I am overwhelmed and elated by the kind gesture of the wife of Kebbi Governor, Dr. Zainab. I hope other spirited well-to-do individuals in the society will emulate what you did. We have 3 more patients with similar problem and looking up to somebody who can also finance their medical bills,” she said.

On their part, Hadiza’s parents, Mohammed Bello Bagudu and Jamila Ibrahim, also thanked Dr. Bagudu and prayed God to reward her.

Responding, Dr. Bagudu wished Hadiza successful operation and pledged to continue to do her best for humanity.

“I am looking forward to seeing you again Hadiza after the operation and I prayed that God will make the operation successful one. I will continue to do my best to assist people,” she said.
