Former Vice President and chieftain of All Progressives Congress, Atiku Abubakar has debunked Oba of Lagos, Rilwanu Akiolu’s allegation that he and others were responsible for his retirement from the Nigeria Police Force in 2002.

Reacting to the Oba’s allegations, Atiku,  in a statement by his media office in Abuja, yesterday, said at no time did he suggest or propose Akiolu’s removal from the Force.

Atiku also said he never supervised the police or the Police Service Commission (PPSC) and, therefore, could not have been part of any alleged plot to force Akiolu out of public service for committing no offence.

The former vice president emphasised that he was not familiar with Oba Akiolu as at the time the monarch was removed from the police.

Atiku, however, affirmed he holds the Oba of Lagos in the highest esteem.

On Monday, the Lagos monarch accused Atiku and one Daura and others, of hastening his exit from the police in 2002.

Oba Akiolu made the allegation at a stakeholder meeting in Lagos, where he also blamed past military governments for current police ineffectiveness.

He left the Force as an Assistant Inspector General.

saying the military killed the efficiency and good performance of police. Though the monarch did not say which of the Daura’s he was referring to, but sources said Akiolu was referring to the acting Director General of the Department of  State Services.
