Army opens new petrol station in Ikeja Cantonment

A new filling station has been opened at the Ikeja Cantonment of the Nigerian Army for the welfare of soldiers and residents of the area.

Inaugurating the facility on Thursday, the 9 Brigade Commander, Brig.-Gen. Elias Attu, said the station was established primarily to serve the needs of barracks residents and aid the command’s operation.

Attu said that residents previously had difficulty in accessing petrol outside the cantonment, adding that product availability would be guaranteed with the establishment of the station.

“We decided to embark on this project in partnership with Koboil Global Service Ltd because we felt that a cantonment of this setting with over a million residents should have a facility like this.

“At times we cannot predict the availability of this product outside the cantonment and that is why we established this station for our people and most especially to support our operations.

“Moreso, we cannot continue to depend on facilities outside the cantonment for services like this, which is why the army deemed it fit to partner with the company to ensure availability within the barracks,’’ the army chief said.

He said the station would be made accessible during the day to members of the public after proper screening at the gate.

“We have mobile patrols day and night and we ensure that every block has its own security architecture mapped out to secure it from activities of miscreants.

“Since I took over the command, I have made sure that there is frequent power supply mostly at nights, because I know that evil strikes most when there is darkness,’’ Attu said.

The brigade commander thanked the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, for approving the initiative.

He said that the project was in line with the vision of having a professionally responsive army in the discharge of its constitutional roles.
