National Leadership of the All Progressives Party (APC), yesterday received defectors from other parties, led by former Labour Party governorship flag-bearer, Chief Great Ogboru and former speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Ochei Victor, the party’s headquarters in Abuja.
The defectors, who had arrived the secretariat in convoy of over 20 vehicles for introduction to the party’s National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, included the state Chairman of the APC, Mr. Jones Ode Erue, former APC governorship candidate, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor.
Addressing newsmen, they described the administration of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as monumental failure, warning that the combination of the politicians coming from the different political parties signalled doom for the incumbent PDP governor, Ifeanyi Okowa.
Defending his decision to join the ruling party, Ogboru noted that having waged the battle alone from the opposition party without success, he decided to team up and join forces with like minds in the state to wrest power from the PDP to liberate Delta.
“I have consistently fought the battle alone to actualise my mandate to give Deltans the government they deserved but the PDP machinery has conspired to deny me the mandate both from the poll and in the court.
“I feel that combining forces with people of like minds in Delta is the best approach to wrestle power from the PDP. For 16 years they have continued to deceive the people of the state and we can no longer watch them take the state backward,” he said.
Similarly, Ochei warned that the decision to join the party will be the panacea to give PDP the technical knockout
Party Chairman, Oyegun assured them that equality and transparency is the character of APC, assuring them that the party will work hard to reclaim Delta in the next election, just as he thanked Delta State former governorship aspirant for his open handedness in allowing more powerful politicians to come into the fold.
