The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the South East, has denied a report in a national daily (not Daily Sun) that it has “denounced former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, as the national leader of the party in the zone.”

APC National Vice Chairman, South East, Hon. Emma Eneukwu, who made the denial, on Monday, in a statement issued in Enugu, said that the distorted report came after their executive committee meeting held in Enugu on February 17, where the issue of the leadership of the party in the zone was discussed.

His words: “We want to state that actually that statement did not reflect the true position of what transpired in the meeting.

“The fact is that while the issue of the leader of the South East was being discussed in the zonal meeting held on Friday 17th February 2017 at the Nike Lake Resort Enugu, the former Senate President, Ken Nnamani GCFR, personally stood up and declined his interest in the position, thereby nibbed the issue in the bud.”

According to him, Nnamani had “maintained that what should concern the zone now should be how to strategize to win the fast approaching Anambra 2017 governorship election.”

Eneukwu also said that the former Senate president reiterated his willingness to serve in any capacity in the party to enhance the party’s fortunes in elections.

“The APC South East is particularly happy with the entry of the former Senate President, Ken Nnamani into the party and will never address him as was carried by the daily.

“We commend his wisdom in the meeting as we hold him in high esteem and will always accord him due respect and regard.

“APC is one united party in the South East and our doors are wide open to receive Igbos into the party,” he said.
