The All Progressive Congress (APC) Congress, in Borno State, has commenced in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, under tight security.
The congress initially scheduled to hold at a popular hotel was moved to the El-Kanemi Sports Complex at the heart of the city, early Saturday due for security reason, party officials said.
Military personnel were deployed to the outer section of the sports complex while personnel of other security agencies including department of the state security services, civil defense corps and police led by the Commissioner of Police, Damian Chukwu maintain internal security within the complex, venue of the congress.
State party secretary, Hon. Bello Ayuba in his opening remark said a total of 1, 726 delegates are participating. He said the delegates include state delegates, party officials at the local and state level, former and present House of Assembly/Representatives members, former and serving senators, former deputy governors and governors, present governor and board of trustees who are automatic delegates.
Chairman of the Congress Committee, Alhaji Tijjani Zakariya announced the names of the contestants into the state party offices. All the contestants are returned unopposed.
