Youths of Ozubulu community in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State have taken to the streets to protest recent alleged ritual killings in the community.

The youths who carried placards demanded for the immediate arrest and detention of all members of the Ozubulu Vigilante Service, until the truth surrounding the ritual killings by one of their members was unraveled.

They also called on the Caretaker Committee of the Ozubulu Development Union (ODU), Dr. Ernest Chukwuka, to ensure that no alien was again employed to serve in the town’s security service.

Commenting on the recent reported arrest of a suspected ritualist in a bush at Ukunu Eziora Ozubulu, Chukwuka said the act was highly condemnable, adding that ritual killers must not go unpunished.

Arising from an emergency security meeting at the palace of the town’s traditional ruler HRH Igwe F.N. Oruche, Dr. Chukwuka regretted the involvement of one of the town’s vigilante member in the ritual killing. He called on law enforcement agents handling the case, to ensure speedy justice  to bring the perpetrators to book, “no matter the connection or how highly-placed.”

He assured that Ozubulu community would leave no stone unturned to see that those connected with the ritual killings were fished out. It was gathered that the suspect arrested with the human parts at a bush in Ozubulu who was a non indigene member of the Ozubulu vigilance group had made a confessional statement to the police.

Reacting to a demonstration by angry Ozubulu youths over the crime, the traditional ruler of the town Igwe Oruche pleaded with the youths to remain calm, saying that the situation was under control. He promised to overhaul the local security system as police continued their investigation. He urged them to remain law-abiding, as Ozubulu remained a peaceful town that had never witnessed such a heinous crime.
