A rights group under the aegis of  Corruption Watch, yesterday, resurrected the case of N78 billion said to have been  left behind by the former governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi.
National Coordinator of Corruption Watch, Mr. Chuks Ogbuka, who spoke with newsmen in Nnewi insisted that Governor Willie Obiano and his All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) had not given sufficient explanation to the people of the state on the true position of the money.
Ogbuka noted that it was true that the matter became a press war between Obi and Obiano, but argued that the matter ended dramatically without any official and sufficient  explanation as to whether the money was actually left in the state coffers or not.
“Corruption Watch is a group of freedom fighters that has no business whatsoever with any form of injustice and that is why we want those concerned to speak up now.
“We have given them enough time to see what comes out of the matter but, it appears the parties concerned are all interested in burying the important matter under the carpet.
“The money is public fund which must be accounted for in the best interest of Anambra State.”
The activist noted that Obiano and APGA should forget the issue of second term if they decide to keep quiet over the matter, which he said was flogged but suddenly dropped by conflicting parties.
“He said his group decided to join APGA and the former national chairman of the party, Sir Victor Umeh in the matter “because Umeh cannot in all sincerity claim ignorance on what transpired between the former governor and his successor especially since the duo formerly belonged to same political party.
Ogbuka said the explanation must come on time if possible before the re-run of the Anambra Central senatorial election to avoid the group making statements that might mar the interest of any of the contestants.
“Corruption Watch is ready to take up this matter with the nation’s anti-graft organisations, we are preparing our records based on what we are able to gather from the two sides in the media but, we are digging deeper and we will surely bring EFCC into these claims and counter-claims.”
On whether he is satisfied with the level of development so far by the administration of Chief Obiano, the Awka-Etiti-born activist said his group would rather see more of the developmental strides on ground and not on billboards.

Residents of Okpoko, in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State have sent Save-Our-Soul to Governor Willie Obiano over deplorable roads in the area.
The community urged the governor to declare a state of emergency on roads in the area, stressing that the rainy season has come and there are no motorable roads in the area.
Traditional ruler of Okpoko,  Igwe Benjamin Moufunanya told Daily Sun that, if urgent measure was not taken, the community would be wiped away by the flood which threatened the community every year during  rainy season.
He said “we don’t have roads in Okpoko, even the ones the governor promised to rehabilitate from Ogbuagu to Owerri road to Mgbuka Amazu have not been completed up till now.”
Moufunanya also urged the governor to employ youths of Okpoko community who are unemployed and alleged the community has many graduates, unemployed, roaming the streets indulging in social vices.
He regretted that no Okpoko man or woman has been employed by the government in power after winning election.
“Also, flood wreaks havoc in this area where many lives and property have been destroyed over the years. The flood prone areas include B. Line, Moufunanya street, my own street, Ogbuagu Street to Amazu, GMO Road and Obike Road, World Bank Road and Isukwato Road etc. The governor has visited some of these roads and awarded the contract but since then and till now, the roads have not been completed.
“We expected the rehabilitation work of the road to have been completed between December and January this year.
“You can see that another rainy season has set in and our lives are in danger. We are paying our taxes promptly.”
We have about 1.5 voters in Okpoko which voted for the governor in last election. We also voted for the president but the problem is that after voting for them, they will go and forget about us” he lamented.
The traditional ruler, however, commended the governor for his laudable job in the state, especially in the area of security of lives and property and urged him to do more in the areas of road rehabilitation. ENDS
