…As PDP hears appeal today

From Ndubuisi Orji, Abuja

Dr. Alex Obiogbolu,Ifeanyi Ubah and two others have appealed the outcome of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary in Anambra State, won by  Oseloka Obazee.

Obazee, a former Secretary to Anambra State Government (SSG) had polled 672 votes to emerge as the PDP candidate for the November 18, governorship contest.

A party source told Daily Sun that four of the aspirants, Stella Oduah, Alex Obiogbolu, Emeka John, Ifeanyi Uba, have all complained about alleged irregularities that the election panel overlooked  and the  unacceptability of the candidature of Obaze as he failed to meet the provisions of the party’s constitution and guidelines on eligibility to contest .  Similarly, a group of Councillors and Chairmanship candidates who ran for the 2014 Anambra State local government election said that Obaze didn’t satisfy the mandatory years he should spend in the party as a member before contesting the primary.

In a press briefing in Awka, the group, led by Onuchukwu said the person who was being paraded as the flag bearer of PDP for Anambra State governorship election cannot go far in the real race as he lacks followership of the real members of the party who still see him as a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

According to the source, it was obvious; from the onset that the panel empowered to conduct the election, in conjunction with the state executive, had a predetermined candidate, which was why people were still being allowed to register while election was going on.

“A lot of meetings have been going on between the aspirants and stakeholders of the party, and all agree on one point that  Obaze was not qualified to be nominated or contest the primaries.

“He sought to have a waiver, but the waiver was never granted. If you were not granted a waiver, which is a precondition to contest the election, so why was he allowed to contest? The days of impunity where everybody decide to take laws into their hands are over,” one of the sources, declared.

Meanwhile, a  statement issued by Chinwe Nnorom,  the Head, Media and Publicity Division of the PDP, yesterday stated that the national leadership would seat today at the PDP National Secretariat,  Wadata Plaza, to treat the two appeals and other complaints arising from the primary.
