The former Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Dr. Amos Adamu, has declared that he would want to see Team Nigeria make an early arrival in Rio for the Olympics.
Adamu made the call yesterday, even as he urged President Muhammadu Buhari to make the needed funds available to enable the Nigerian contingent jet out in good time.
“Team Nigeria members need to get to the venue of the Olympics early, that would go a long way in preparing the athletes and coaches for the challenges of the Olympics, since they didn’t embark on a comprehensive foreign training tour.”
The former FIFA and CAF Executive Committee member, stated that, the issue of the N2.9billion released by the President last year should wait until after the Rio outing as what should be on the front burner now is how to ensure Nigeria puts up a good performance at the Games.
He noted that those suggesting that the number of athletes for the Games should be reduced, are only calling for bigger troubles for Nigerian sports as the International Olympic Committee (IOC) would come down heavily on the country with sanctions that would cost a lot of foreign exchange to offset.
