They were reported to have lost their valuables worth millions of Naira to the robbers.

The club’s Chairman, Mr Emmanuel Zira, made the disclosure on Monday to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Yola.

Zira said the state government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports had already issued a memo to that effect.

The chairman gave the victims the assurance that they would be compensated as their lost cash and other valuables were documented.

He advised the ministry on early release of funds for players to enable them to commence their journey on time and to avoid stress.

“Those players who were victims of robbery attack will be compensated and the state government has given us that assurance.

“I still urge the ministry to stop late release of money to our players anytime they are to go out for a match.

“It is worrisome that our players always arrive in their match venues late and as such the stress from the journey affects their performance.

“This attitude must change for our players to do well,’’ Zira said.

When contacted, a top official of the ministry confirmed its commitment to compensate the Queens’ FC players.

The official who spoke anonymously said that the ministry had taken stock of their lost valuables and was working hard to compensate the victims.

He also confirmed the late release of funds to players during matches, attributing the challenge to lack of funds in the ministry.

“It takes efforts by our ministry officials to raise cash for matches, sometimes we incur debts for our players to go for their matches, so it is not our fault,’’ he said. (NAN)
