…UNIMAID presents Alfa-Jets skid brake to NAF

A female suicide bomber trying to force her way into a mosque in Maiduguri, Borno capital blew up herself, killing eight people. 

In another incident,  suicide bomber was killed at Molai, outskirts of the state capital.

The explosive on the bomber’s body went off as she attempted to enter a mosque at London Ciki, a crowded area in Maiduguri early yesterday morning.

Commissioner of Police, Damian Chukwu told Daily Sun the incident occurred at about 4:30am yesterday.

“At about 0430hrs (4:30am), a female suicide bomber in an attempt to enter a mosque at London Ciki community in Gwange general area of Maiduguri metropolis, detonated IED strapped to her body, killing herself and ten others while eighteen others were injured,” the CP said.

He disclosed that corpses of the deceased and those injured had been taken to the hospital.

“The police Explosive Ordinance Department (EOD) has been deployed to sanitize and render safe the scene and vicinity,” he said.

Executive Chairman, State Emergency Managment Agency, Ahmed Satomi told Daily Sun another suicide bombing at Molai earlier yesterday also killed the lone bomber. Molai has witnessed many bomb attacks, is a volatile settlement at the outskirts of the city.

Meanwhile the University of Maiduguri, yesterday presented an Alfa-Jet anti-skid brake system to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), to boost its war against Boko-Haram terrorists group in the north east.

This is coming just as the university has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), with the NAF, in the area of Research and Development to encourage local capacity building through innovation for self reliance.

Similarly, the university has vowed not to shut down the institution over attacks from the Boko Haram terrorists.

Presenting the Alfa-Jet anti-skid brake system to the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Sadiq Abubakar, at the headquarters of the Nigerian Air Force in Abuja, Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njoji, maintained that but for the NAF, the university of Maiduguri, would have longed been shut down owing to the activities of the Boko Haram activities that have ravaged the North East part of the country.

Njoji, while noting that the system, produced by one of the lecturers of the university, Mr. Mohammed Shuwa, would no doubt boost the counter insurgency operations of the NAF, pledged the support of the university to continue to work with the service and do everything in its powers to help in ending the insurgency war for peace to return to the state.

He said the production of the Alfa-Jet anti-skid brake system, which started about two months ago after the NAF chief approached him on the matter, is the beginning for more innovation between the university and the NAF, to achieve a meaningful technological breakthroughs.
