NO fewer than five Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) have been killed and six others injured as suicide bombers blew up themselves at an Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Dikwa, Borno State.

Two suicide bombers early yesterday infiltrated the IDPs camp in Dikwa and detonated explosives, killing five persons and injuring six others. The military confirmed the attack.

Spokesman, Operation Lafiya Dole, Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, told Sunday Sun the suicide bombers infiltrated the IDPs camp before security personnel around could stop them.

“Two suicide bombers trying to enter the Dikwa IDPs camp detonated explosives on their bodies.

Seven people including the bombers were killed and six injured,” he said.

Nwachukwu said the military views the latest trend by Boko Haram as part of the terrorists’ tactics by targeting IDPs camps and other vulnerable persons.   He said the insurgents have also resorted to kidnapping or hostage taking for ransom, urging residents to be security conscious.

“The latest trend by Boko Haram is part of the new tactics to attack soft targets. The terrorists are also taking hostages for ransom and using the captives as suicide bombers,” he stated.

He appealed to people to report strange movement of person(s) and equally raise alarm whenever they see suicide bombers looking for where to perpetrate their act.

The Dikwa suicide bombing on IDPs came on the heels of the recent bloody attack on a convoy of oil workers and university staff where nearly 40 persons were killed and at least four abducted.
