The Ogun State Police Command has rounded up over 60 suspect armed robbers, kidnappers and cult members, recovering stolen motorcycles, 30 arms and ammunition.
Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ahmed Illiyasu, told Daily Sun in Abeokuta that the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Commander Uba Adams, with his operatives arrested three suspected armed robbers. They trailed their victim to an ATM point and robbed him of his vehicle, N300,000 and two phones:
“The suspects are Taiwo, Kabiru and Seun. We recovered one handset, Toyota Camry, one pump pistol action gun, two locally cut to size pistols, four life and one expended cartridges.
“SARS smoked out a six-man gang of six armed robbers at Honey Dew, Igbesa via Agbara. Members of the gang are Jeffrey, Mohammed, Sunday, Paul, Matthew and Emmanuel. one barrel pistol with breach No. 030685, one locally made barrel pistol, three life cartridges and one face mask were recovered.
“Commander, Anti-Cultism Squad (ACS), Ope Kuroje, with his operatives arrested 11 members of notorious cult group terrorising Ijeja, Agbado. The suspects were rounded up in their hideout where they were planning to launch an attack. One UTC cutlass, some blue berets, charms and other dangerous weapons were recovered. The suspects included Abayomi, Alaba, Hakeem, Aminat, Seun and Kehinde.
“SARS operatives attached to Ogijo Division accosted one Shakirudeen at Eyinogbeisale Ogiju, where he was about to carry out an operation with his gang. The operatives foiled the operation arrested the suspect. One pump action gun, four locally made single barrel guns, one locally made double barrel gun and 75 live cartridges and N87, 000 were recovered.
“Some hoodlums at about 8am came to Obalende, Ijebu-Ode, with intent to attack and kidnapp Chinese nationals working at 626 Quarry. The hoodlums came in a truck with some of them dressed in military uniform. They engaged police in a gun duel. The suspects will soon be charged to court.”
