Four men were, on Tuesday, brought before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, for allegedly robbing a motorist of property worth millions of naira.

The accused — Babatunde Adura, 20; Bode Isiaka, 26; Laide Sodiq, 20 — were arraigned on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and robbery, while Azeez Adeyinka, 27, is standing trial for receiving stolen items.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

But the prosecutor, Insp. Chinalu Uwasione, insisted that the accused committed the offences on March 17 at about 8.00 p.m. on Orile-Iganmu Bridge.

He told the court that the accused used an object to break the side glasses of a jeep belonging to the complaint, Winifred Igweonmu, while in traffic and robbed her.

The items stolen from the RAV4 jeep with Registration no. EPE 460 BQ an iPhone 7 valued at N700,000, a Samsung Edge6 phone valued at N250,000.

Others are a handbag and wallet valued at 528 dollars as well as 1,800 dollars and some vital documents, according to Uwasione.

The offences contravened Sections 297, 328, 339 and 412 of the Criminal law of Lagos State, 2015.

Section 328 prescribes seven years imprisonment.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Oluyemisi Adelaja, granted the first, second and third accused a N500,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

Adelaja also granted Adeyinka a N100,000 bail with one surety for receiving stolen items.

The case has been adjourned until May 15 for mention. (NAN)
