Tragedy befell Lagos last night as a container laden with plywood unlatched from the truck conveying it, fell off the Ojuelegba flyover bridge and crashed onto three commercial buses as well as a car, killing three persons on the spot. Many others were injured.

Daily Sun gathered that the truck, which was heading towards the Maryland end of the bridge lost control, fell off and landed on the vehicles below.

It was gathered that passengers in the commercial buses were trapped, while passers-by, first, made spirited efforts to rescue them, before officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigerian Red Cross and the Nigeria Police arrived.

The occupant of the car, who did not give his name, said he was lucky to have escaped alive.
According to him, he saw the container hanging on the bridge, but could not move his car because the traffic light was on red.

He said he had to jump out of the vehicle immediately, revealing that moments after, the container came crashing down and landed on his vehicle, flattening it instantly.
In the recue effort, LASEMA officials used automated saw to cut through the container to release the commercial buses, wherein passengers were trapped. Three of the passengers were brought out dead.

In 2015, a container being conveyed by a truck fell off Ojuelegba Bridge and crushed a couple who were occupants of a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV).

The container also fell on another private car.

The accident caused chaotic traffic situation on Western Avenue, with a large crowd gathering to witness the horror.

Traffic officials later arrived the scene of the incident and took charge of the situation.
