2019: Buhari’s re-election campaign has begun, says minister

… Buhari/Osinbajo South West campaign office opens Jan. 20

From: Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, Abuja

Minister of Communications, Alhaji Adebayo Shittu, on Wednesday, disclosed that campaign for the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari has begun even though he (President Buhari) was yet to make up his mind on the 2019 presidential election.

The minister, who said he has just been appointed national chairman of the Board of Trustees of Muhammadu Buhari/Osinbajo Dynamic Support Group, said this in an interview with State House Correspondents, shortly after a closed door meeting with Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

According to him, President Buhari’s ardent supporters, of which he is one, would prevail on him to seek re-election.

He said they would help Buhari to make up his mind so that Nigeria could continue to enjoy stability and progress.

The minister, who said he seized the opportunity of the meeting to inform Buhari that he has been appointed a national chairman of the Board of Trustees of Muhammadu Buhari/Osinbajo Dynamic Support Group, said the South West Zonal Office of the Buhari/Osinbajo Campaign Organisation would be inaugurated on January 20.

Specifically on whether the President will re-contest, Shittu said, “It goes without saying. I mean if you have a child who goes to primary school and he does well, he proceeds to secondary school and he does well, and you keep asking if he will be going to university. It goes with out saying.

“By the grace of God, we his (Buhari’s) ardent supporters who appreciate his worth on behalf of millions of Nigerians would urge him to re-contest.

“I know he has not made up his mind but I can say that some of us can assist him in making up his mind so that nigeria can continue to enjoy stability and progress in our land.”

When asked if the development was an indication that campaign for 2019 has started, the minister responded, “Every day since he (Buhari) came into office, all his activities are geared towards letting Nigerians know that they have a saviour, a rescuer, somebody who is committed to providing relief for Nigerians in all respects.

“In the area of fighting corruption, insurgency whether in the North East or the Niger Delta; in the area of repairing the economy and providing jobs and providing social stability in the society.

“You will agree with me that today but for Buhari, Boko Haram would have invaded even Lagos.”

A political culture that violated rule of law, violated democratic process and principles, disregard constitutional political objective and disrespected democratic values these are all confirmation that democracy not compatible with a sicked society like Nigeria. How could a minister after admitted that President buhari had not yet show intrest on re-election still insisted to start campaign for him? Or does the minister realised his motive has disrespect electoral procedure while his desperate intention is questionable as far as democracy is concerned? Therefore the minister of communcation should realised that the late Nelson Mandela of south africa left a legacies that is now called Mandela-style which mean after he served one tenure he refused to recontest and these gave him admirable reputation all over the world moreover does his refusal to reconted mean he government does not achieved anything for the electorate? Mr minister deserve to be remove in 24hrs if president buhari clearly wanted to clean himself from the barbaric political culture and its diseases
