From David Onwuchekwa, Nnewi

As the battle for the National Assembly come 2019 intensifies in Anambra State, one of the contenders for Nnewi North/Nnewi South and Ekwusigo federal constituency, Comrade Uzor Nwosu has declared why his mission and ambition must be supported.

He made the declaration when he addressed over 150 members of his kinsmen under the umbrella of Umu Nwakanwa Eze Oguine Royal Family, Otolo Nnewi as part of the programmes to mark Christmas and New Year festivities.

Nwosu, an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) expert working in an oil company is of the view that the essence of political representation at any level is to ensure better life for the people being represented which could be achieved through quality representation.

Nwosu, is set to contest on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and has made a firm promise that with him in the House, all the funds meant for constituency projects must be properly utilized and accounted for. He said a naira of the funds set aside to better the lot of his constituents would never go into his private pocket “as some lawmakers often do.”

Nwosu articulated some of the life-changing activities he had engaged in, using his foundation christened Reality Forum, an APGA support group, in his constituency to reach out to the less privileged members of society.

At the last count, according to the philanthropist, 75 persons are under his scholarship scheme at various secondary and tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

He said that did not limit him from coming to the rescue of patients trapped at some hospitals for their inability to pay their bills. His foundation had as well visited several destitute homes with enough succour to the inmates and upkeep of the homes.

“I do not do all this things because I’m the richest man in the constituency. And this act of charity has been going on for over half a decade now. I do it because I feel for the indigent ones around me. That is to tell you the stuff I’m made. You should look around and give help to those you are better than. That’s what it should be, that is one of the best ways to give back to society,” he noted.

Nwosu said he discovered that the poverty level in the society has remained on the increase “and that is why I will pay greater attention to skills acquisition and job creation, give prominence to knowledge economy through proper exploration and exploitation of the opportunities provided by the ICT. That is another gold mine far much better than oil.”

He explained that the best way to fight poverty is to make people be gainfully employed to generate income for themselves and society at large.

He vowed that he would never within his limit live to see anybody suffer the way he did before luck smiled at him.

On why he chose APGA as his platform, he had this to say: “APGA’s, onye aghala nwanneya motto (be your brother’s keeper) is in agreement with my philosophy of life. And I’m highly impressed with Governor Willie Obiano’s achievement in Anambra State.” He said he would go to National Assembly to introduce bills that would add value to the welfare of Anambra people and other Nigerians generally, not to go there as a bench warmer.

Speakers who took turns to address the audience including Barrister Ugochukwu Uzodike, chairman of the Royal Family and Prince Barth Nwosu all agreed that Nwosu must be given a chance considering his antecedents, his laudable contributions towards improving the general welfare of his people.
