…Mobilises grassroots

As the November 18, 2017 governorship election for Anambra State draws near, die-hard members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) under the guise of Anambra State Former PDP Councilors Forum, has said that the party was ready to reclaim the state it lost to APGA since 2006.
The group made the declaration, on Monday, when members of the Forum cutting across the 326 electoral wards in the state held their meeting in Ozubulu , Ekwusigo Local Government Area of the state, met to brainstorm on the way forward for the party.
Delivering their communiqué, Chairman of the group, Hon. Benard Nnamdi Onuchukwu, said that by virtue of the fact that the PDP was formed in Anmbra State through a former Vice President of Nigeria, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, PDP deserves control of the state government.
Describing Anambra as a PDP state, Onuchukwu claimed that more than 80 per cent of the population in the state were PDP in blood, and expressed optimism that the party would take over Anambra State Government House after the November election.
The communiqué reads in part, “PDP is the only Democratic Party in Nigeria, consequently, in just two and half years without PDP in power at the centre, Nigeria is collapsing. Anambra state would have been better if PDP is in power instead of APGA government for over eleven years. The Forum wants the leadership of PDP to give us maximum support by ensuring that the forthcoming party’s primary in the state was not a cash and carry project.
“We needed grass rooted politician to fly the party flag in the election, which would guarantee victory for the Party. We are diehard party faithful, with all necessary tools to deliver our candidate, if the leadership of the party allows the popular candidate to emerge during the primaries.
“The party, among other mechanisms, has set-up internal formidable structure aimed at fortifying the grassroots with reliable party loyalists that would deliver results in 2017 governorship election”
While reacting to questions posed by pressmen, the secretary of the forum in the state, Hon. Robinson Udemezue, noted that one of the aims of the forum was to reclaim what they lost in 2006, as they serve as the trusted eyes at the grassroots. He noted that the tasks ahead of the party would not be easy but victory was assured.
