Forty-five communities in three local government areas of Anambra State that make up Old Aguata People’s Assembly (OAU) are demanding that power shifts to Anambra South ahead of the next gubernatorial election in the state.

The claimed that they were yet to enjoy the dividends of democracy since Governor Willie Obiano took over the reins of power.

The people who spoke through their umbrella body, OAU, said that they were fed-up with supporting candidates who after clinching victory kick them away.

The people disclosed this at the interdenominational thanksgiving service held at Neros Sports Stadium, Nanka, Orumba North under the chairmanship of the President Ohanaeze Ndi-Igbo in Anambra, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene.

To this end, they endorsed the aspiration of Mr Godwin Ezeemo who hails from Umuchu in Aguata council area.

The welcome address of Odinma OAU Forum delivered by the Chairman of the planning committee, Prince Joe Emenike, which was jointly signed by its Secretary, Dan-Chibo Umeh, the group lamented that “it seems we are plunged into slavery from which we are yet to regain freedom.”

“Why are we in the habit of holding the ladder for other zones to climb to power only to turn around and grumble that we are kicked out and side-lined?” they queried.

The chairman of the occasion, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene, represented by the SSA on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters to former Gov. Peter Obi, Sir Godfrey Muotolu, pointed that OAU was formed to be their brother’s keeper at all times.

In his speech, former Secretary to the State Government, Mr Oseloka Obaze, who was gunning for Anambra’s government house from Anambra North, carpeted Gov. Willie Obiano-led administration for “lacking clear focus and ideas to turn the state around for good.”
